Basic Chat Channel Walkthrough/Intro

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are many reasons why you might be interested in creating a chat channel. Alliances between guilds, for example, may require a larger chat zone than the basic guild chat feature. Likewise, someone may be interested in creating a channel for their friends to chat in or for trade purposes.

Please note that if you have created a chat channel that you no longer wish to exist that it is polite to type in /cgdisband <chat name> rather than abandoning the channel. Channels without passwords will be deleted after 24 hours without use.

A single player may not participate in more than nine channels at one time.

For a basic list of commands, please click here. Fenikkusu created a simple listing of commands previously, and this guide will go in-depth into the chat system as a whole.

Basic channels
There are a few basic channels that all players will start in, and several other "permanent" channels operated by the server that players may join.  To chat in a channel you must enter the command before your message.

Channel Notes Command
LOCAL The LOCAL channel is the only channel you cannot leave. Local chat is isolated to the map you are currently on. You will always be in this channel.

/say

/local

ALL The ALL channel is a global broadcast between all maps and is likely the most used channel. You are able to leave this channel. All players begin with access to this channel. /all
TRADE The TRADE channel is where all trading must be conducted. You do not start in this channel and must join it. /t
BATTLE The BATTLE channel is a permanent channel set up so that players may request battles outside of the main chat. You do not start in this channel, and must join it. /b
AUCTIONHOUSE The AUCTIONHOUSE channel is a permanent channel that only operates when The_Auctioner is online. /ah
MONEYPOOL The MONEYPOOL channel is a permanent channel that only operates when The_Auctioner is online. /mp
GUILD The GUILD channel is a permanent channel that only exists if you are a part of a guild. This channel allows you to communicate with members of your guild /guild

Channel types
There are three basic types of Channels: Global, which are accessible by any player at all times; Public, which are player-made channels that allow anyone to join; and Private, which are player-made channels that require the use of a password in order to join.

The five Global channels are ALL, TRADE, BATTLE, AUCTIONHOUSE, and MONEYPOOL. Guild and Local chats count as separate, default channels.

Public and Private channels are player created and operated, so there is no official list.

Joining, leaving and speaking in channels

Joining and Leaving

To Join a channel, you need to type in /cgjoin [channelname]. For example, typing in /cgjoin Battle will cause you to join the Battle channel, or /cgjoin Trade will have you join Trade.

If a channel has a password, you will obviously need the password to enter. The command is the same, except you will add the password to the end. For example, if a channel named Journey has a password of Arnel, you would type in /cgjoin Journey, Arnel to join that particular channel.

To leave a channel, simply type in /cgleave [channelname]. So let's say you joined the Journey channel in the previous example, but decide you do not like it there. To leave, type in /cgleave Journey and you will be removed from the chat.

Speaking

In the case of the Local, Guild, All, Trade, Battle, AuctionHouse, and MoneyPool channels, you can simply type in /local /guild /all /t /b /ah and /mp. For other channels you will have to find the channel's ID or make it your default channel.

To make a channel into your default channel, all you have to do is type in either /cgset /cgdefault or /cgdef then the name of the channel or its ID (explained below). Doing this will make it so that when you type into the chat you will always speak in that channel. For example, /cgdef All will make you always communicate within the ALL channel.

To find a channel's ID number, you need to find a list of all of the channels you are in. To do this, type in either /cgview /cgchannels /cgactive /cgcurrent /cgmyc or /cgcheck . All of these are identical commands with different names, so pick your favorite. Next to each name on the list you will notice a number in brackets; that is the channel ID. To speak in a listed channel, type in /[Channel ID] before the message.

[Example coming soon]

In this particular example, the channel "Journey" is set to ID slot 2. For this person to talk in the Journey channel, they will have to either set the default channel to Journey or type in /2 before their messages. Please note that channel IDs may change as you enter and exit channels, and will very likely be different between different people

Ulitlity commands

UTILITY COMMANDS

Teams

When you create an account, you are automatically assigned to either the RED or BLUE team. Every action you make represents your team's prowess. Unlike guilds, which can be comprised of any player who willingly joins, your team is set and cannot change. In the future contests may be held between the RED and BLUE team. Previously they were used as a way to battle other players in a Battle HQ, which has not yet been recreated on the current server. To check what team you are on, type in /team .

Private Messages

You can use the /send command to send a PM to a player without opening a window. For example, /send Kyro will send Kyro a private message inside of the chat box. This command is purely utility/preference.

Channel Lists

Typing in /cgwho [channel name or ID] will relay a list of all users currently inside of the named channel. For example, /cgwho trade will give you a list of all players currently in the Trade channel.

Using either /cglist or /cgall will provide you with a list of all Global and Public channels. Public channels are deleted after 24 hours of inactivity. Private channels are not listed.

Tokens and Coins

The /token and /coin commands are currently not a part of PWO. They will be available in the future.

CHANNEL CREATION

Only channel Owners can use these commands, with the exception of actually creating the channel.

Creation

To create a channel is very simple. Type in /cgcreate name, where "name" is the name you wish to use for your channel. For example, typing in /cgcreate Journey will create a channel named Journey. The person who creates the channel is known as the Owner.

Moderators

Channel moderators can be assigned by the channel's owner to assist with operating the chat. To create a moderator, the owner must type in /cgmod channel, name; where name is the individual's name. For example, if you wanted to make Steve_Perry a moderator in the Journey chat, you would type in /cgmod Journey, Steve_Perry.

Changing Name

The owner of a channel can change its name by typing in /cgname channel, new name. This is useful both for if your original name has a spelling error and for if you decide that the channel needs a new purpose. For example, if you wanted to change the name of the channel "Really Cool Band" to "Journey", you would type in /cgname Really Cool Band, Journey.

Password

If you decide to make your channel a password-only, Private channel there are two things you should know. First, your channel will not show up on any channel lists. Second, you will not be able to invite people to join your chat with the /cginvite command. In order to set a password, the chat owner must type in /cgpassword [channel name or ID], new password, confirm new password. For example, if you wanted to make "Arnel" the password to the channel Journey, you would type in /cgpassword Journey, Arnel, Arnel.

Disbanding

If you decide that a channel is no longer worth the effort to operate or is no longer an interest of yours, you can type in /cgdisband [channel name or ID] to delete it. For example, if you wanted to disband the channel "Journey Stinks", you would type in /cgdisband Journey Stinks.

CHANNEL MODERATION

Only channel Moderators or Owners can use these commands.

Kicking

If a player is causing a disturbance in a chat channel, any channel moderator or owner can type in /cgkick channel, playername. This will remove them from the channel. For example, if "MCR_FAN_4_LYF" is causing trouble in the channel Journey, any owner can type in /cgkick Journey, MCR_FAN_4_LYF and remove them from the channel.

Invitations

If you are a moderator or owner of a Public chat, you can invite people to join. To do this, simply type in /cginvite channel name, player name. For example, if you wanted to invite Steve_Perry to join the chat group Journey, you would type in /cginvite Journey, Steve_Perry.

Message of the Day (MOTD)

The Message of the Day, or MOTD for short, is an announcement that any player accessing the channel for the first time in any given day will receive. To use it, type in /cgmotd [channel name or ID], message; where "message" is what you wish players to read. For example, /cgmotd Journey, We love the epic band Journey will make it so that any player entering the Journey chat will have the MOTD tell them "We love the epic band Journey".

CHANNEL CUSTOMIZATION

Colors

You are able to change the color of any chat channel you are currently in. The change in color will only modify your own personal settings, so changing the color of the "all" channel will only change your own settings. Currently the only colors available are Red, Blue, Green, and Black. By default, the Local channel is black, the system messages are Green, chat-based PMs and the Guild channel are Red, and everything else is Blue. To change the color of a channel, type in /cgcolor [channel name or ID], color; where the name or ID is the name of the channel you wish to modify. For example, typing in /cgcolor Journey, Red will make the Journey channel appear in Red letters in your client.
